WHY AND HOW TO GET A CARPET DYED

WHY AND HOW TO GET A CARPET DYED
Everything in this world is but, perishable. Living beings only exist for a limited number of clock ticks; fragile things break and lasting articles deteriorate. Accordingly, the condition and the outlook of the carpet that we have chosen to add new color and shade to the décor of our bedroom may worsen with time. The borders may get loose and the knots may begin to unfold. However, what mostly determine the life of a carpet are its colors.
Undoubtedly, the most salient feature of a carpet is its color pattern. The contrasting colors laid beautifully on a solid background color to achieve an intricate and artistic design account completely for the beauty in a carpet. So, if the colors of a carpet have faded, though the fiber of the pile is still in acceptable condition, the only way to extend the usability of the carpet to a few more years is to dye it with some new color. Besides fading, carpets can also be dyed so as to change their outlook and make them more suiting to the surrounding décor.
A word of caution quite opportune here is that the process of carpet dying is practically reversible and if not done correctly, it may completely wreck your carpet. So, some guidelines should be followed prior to venturing for the “makeover” of your carpet and professional consultation should be solicited.
Firstly, you need to figure out that whether your carpet can be dyed or not. Only the carpets with piles made of nylon and wool can be dyed. The carpets made of other synthetic fibers like polyester and acrylic cannot be dyed.
The most important and foremost step in the process of color dying is choosing the color of the dye. What matters the most in this selection is the existing color of the carpet. It should be kept in mind that the color resulting after applying the dye would be a blend of the existing and the dye color. For example, if you have a yellow carpet, and you use a red dye, you will end up with an orange shade on your carpet. Secondly, you will always have to opt for darker colors so that the color of the dye can dominate the existing color. If you have a white or a very light-colored carpet, it can be dyed to any color of your choice, though the shade may not be as dark as you want. Next step is then to choose a dye. It is very important to choose a good quality dye that is fading resistant, and preferably also has a stain resistant surface.
Once color selection is complete, it’s time to apply the dye to the carpet. It would be better to reiterate that color dying may destroy your carpet if not done properly. You may get non-uniform color shading with patches of darker and lighter colors defacing your carpet. So it is highly advisable that professional help should be sought. If you are highly desirous of saving the cost of professional services, then it would be best to first practice by dyeing a piece of scrap carpet and then venturing on to apply the dye on the original carpet. Even in this case, professionals may be called upon to do the final touches and give uniformity of shade to the carpet.
Carpet dye is a perfect way to increase the life of a carpet. It can even be used to give new shadings to the carpets so that they comply more with the environs.
